Former University of Iowa gymnast and Coralville businessman, Leland J. Belding II, returned to his creator on March 3, 2005.

Born December 26, 1937 in Annapolis, Md. to Dr. Leland J. Belding, Lt. US Navy, and Cosette Campbell.

Memorials may be directed in Leland’s name to Hospice of Iowa City, 1025 Wade Street Iowa City, IA 52240 or Iowa City Cancer Treatment Center, 601 E. Bloomington Street Iowa City, IA 52245

Leland was a graduate of Storm Lake High School and the University of Iowa. For enjoyment he attended Kirkwood Community College Culinary Arts program. Leland was a soldier of the US Air Force from 1955 to 1959.

Leland married Carol Slach of West Branch in 1965 and was blessed with one son, Leland J. Belding III.

Leland spent his business life in the hospitality industry managing Iowa City's landmarks The Airliner in the early 60's and later managed the infamous Lil' Bill's Bar. He coached gymnastics and continued to work in the hospitality business until 1983 when he and his wife opened Charlie's Bar & Grill located in Coralville.

Leland is survived by his wife Carol Charlie, son Leland J. III, (Ingrid), and granddaughter Andrea Lauren all of Coralville, IA, one sister Becky Clark, Ellicott City, MD, one brother Frank Campbell (Mary) Belding, Effort, PA, and Parents-in-Law Kenny (Betty) Slach of West Branch.

Leland was preceded in death by his parents
