Services:Services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 AM at First United Methodist Church in Iowa City with Reverend Paul Akin officiating. Friends may call Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City. The family will host a luncheon at the church immediately following the funeral service. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City.
Visitation:In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to CHAMPS (at UIHC), Noon Lion’s Club, or The American Heart Association.
Harold was born August 22, 1928 in Clarion, IA, son of Harold B. Engen Sr. and Alma Marcus Engen. He graduated from Clarion High School in 1946, joining the army in September and served for 18 months during WWII.

He earned his undergraduate degree from Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, Iowa where he met and married Eleanor Britt June 1, 1952. He went on to earn his Masters Degree and Doctorate in Education from the University of South Dakota. He was a teacher, a high school principal, and a county guidance counselor before coming to the University of Iowa in 1964. He taught in the College of Education and was a consultant to the ACT Program until his retirement. In recent years he has been active in several organizations, including First United Methodist Church in Iowa City, The Heritage Foundation, Iowa City Noon Lion’s Club, Iowa City Senior Center, the New Horizons Band, and various golf and horseshoe leagues.

He is survived by his wife, Eleanor; his son Steve and wife Becky of Charlotte, NC; his daughter Carol Cline and husband Steve of West Liberty, IA; and two granddaughters, Alex and Addison Cline. He is also survived by his sister Audrey of Mason City, IA; brother Richard of Independence, IA; and a sister-in-law Betty Engen of Cedar Falls, IA. Preceding him in death were his parents, a brother, and two sons.
