Harvey W. Volk, 90, of Melrose Meadows, Iowa City died Monday, March 7, 2005 at the Solon Care Center following an extended illness.

Harvey was born May 3, 1914 in Johnson County, Iowa, the son of William and Anna Cox Volk. He married Genevieve Kaspar on April 19, 1939 in Iowa City.

Harvey was a 1934 graduate of Cosgrove High School. He and his wife farmed for many years in the Cosgrove area, moving to Iowa City in 1965. Harvey had been employed at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics retiring in 1984.

He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, the National Catholic Society of Foresters, Eagles Lodge and the Moose Lodge. While attending Cosgrove High School, Harvey’s fondest memory was his basketball team played the Harlem Globetrotters twice. He never did say if they won or lost.

He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather who dearly loved his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was an avid bingo fan and loved his polka music. He always made Christmas special for his family.

Harvey is survived by his three sons; James (Janet) Volk of North Liberty, Iowa, Steve (Karen) Volk of Solon, William (Kathy) Volk of Naperville, Illinois; two daughters, Linda (Loren) Wilkerson and Mary Ann (Randy) Phillips, both of Solon; one sister, Camille Reyhons of Solon; three brothers, Edmund Volk of Oxford, Kenneth Volk of Almond, Wisconsin, Eugene Volk of Waupaca, Wisconsin; nineteen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two sisters Genevieve Montgomery and Mary Catherine Anderson and one brother Omar Volk.
