Dorothy Marie Fountain, 95, of Little Rock, Arkansas, died Monday, March 7, 2005 in Little Rock, Arkansas at Arkansas Hospice.

Dorothy was born April 23, 1909 in Washington County, Iowa, the daughter of Edward & Mary Eichler Kos. She graduated from Washington High School.

Dorothy taught Kindergarten through 8th grade in a one-room country school house for four years before marrying Robert Fountain, a farmer, in 1934, then moving to Iowa City. The couple had one child Judith. She used her talents of gardening and cooking, growing up on a farm, to become a successful farmer’s wife. She prepared delicious pastries, especially kolaches, and was known for her beautiful tatted handwork.

Dorothy founded the HGL (Happy Go Lucky) Neighborhood club that was active for many years. She was also active in the East Lucas club. Dorothy was proud of her Czech heritage. She moved to Little Rock in 1997 to live with her daughter and son-in-law. She was an active participant in Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church’s Helping Hands respite care program and soon made many friends.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert, sisters Marguerite Havel, Leona Kos and Helen Boyer; brothers, Frank Kos and Edwin Kos; niece Nancy Strabala; nephews, Thomas Havel, Leonard Kos, Steven Boyer, Kenneth Hemsted and Larry Hemsted.

Survivors include her daughter, Judith and husband, Roger Zachritz of Little Rock, AK; granddaughter,Jane Zachritz of Houston, TX; grandson, Steven Zachritz and his wife, Meredith of Little Rock, Ak; and great-granddaughter, Madeline; nieces, Jean Fox, Mary Swailes, Dorothy Richardson, Janice Hanna, Connie Frey and Ruth Ann Burk; nephews, Donald Kim Boyer, Frank Kos and Donald Kos.
