Edwin “Ed” F. Schneider, 65 of Iowa City died Saturday, May 28, 2005, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, 605 Kirkwood Ave., Iowa City. Visitation will be Monday from 4 – 8 pm at Lensing’s. Private family burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice.

Ed was born May 18, 1940, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Benjamin A. and Dorothy P. (Alwine) Schneider and was raised in Coralville. On May 18, 1963 he married Helen Wehrle; the couple was married at St. Peters Church in Cosgrove, Iowa. He worked as a custodian for the University of Iowa for thirty six years retiring in 1997. Ed served in the National Guard, was a volunteer with the Coralville Fire Department and was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. He enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing and photography.

He is survived by his wife, Helen, of Iowa City, one brother, Ronald Schneider and his wife, Jackie, of Iowa City; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews; a special niece, Shelley Levi of McKinney, Texas, and his loving Beagle and pal, Midge.

He is preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Renee` Schneider.
