Robert J. Hora, 87, of rural West Branch died at his home Tuesday, December 20, 2005 surrounded by his family.

Robert was born November 23, 1918 in rural Johnson County, the son of Joseph and Mary (Kadera) Hora. He was a graduate of West Branch High School and had attended the University of Iowa, where he was in ROTC. Robert served in the US Army during World War II. On February 7, 1945 he married Margaret Kasper at St. Mary’s Church in Iowa City.

Robert and his wife have farmed west of West Branch for over sixty years. Robert was especially devoted to his family and raising his Hereford cattle.

Robert was a member of St. Mary’s Church, the Johnson County Farm Bureau, the American Hereford Assn., Chauncey Butler American Legion Post 514 in West Branch. He had served on the IPLA Beef Board.

Robert is survived by his wife of 60 years, Margaret; two daughters, Judy (Clyde) Antone and Sharon (Elmer “Ron”) Hebl, both of West Branch; five grandchildren, Alisa (Matt) Mathis, Robyn (Tim) Beuter, Adam Hebl, Alex Hebl and Matt Hebl, all of West Branch; two great-grandsons, Daniel and Jason Beuter; one sister Arlene Dayhoff of Cedar Rapids.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, A.M. Hora and Orville Hora and one sister Gladys Kasparek.
