Evelyn H. Dolan, 89, formerly of Grimes, died Tuesday, February 28, 2006 at Solon Nursing Care Center after a brief illness.

Evelyn was born August 31, 1916 in Des Moines, the daughter of John & Lena (Peitzman) Baer. Evelyn married John Dolan June 22, 1935 in Grimes. She and her husband owned and operated Dolan Grocery in Grimes. Evelyn later worked for S.S. Kresge Company as a cashier and accountant. She also served as town treasurer for the city of Grimes for 30 years.

She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Grimes – where she served as treasurer and participated in church bible study and the church women’s club. Evelyn compiled and published a book on the genealogy of her mother’s family, “The John Frederick Peitzman Family in America” in 1984.

Survivors include her daughter, Sharon Kay Stang & her husband Alan of Iowa City; grandchildren, Kristin Stang & her husband Gordon Capp of Buena Park, California and Jeffrey Stang, his wife Lisa McDaniel and their daughter Ellie, all of Chicago.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1964 and eight brothers and sisters.

The family would like to thank both Solon Nursing Care Center and Iowa City Hospice for their care given to Evelyn.
