Patricia “Pat” L. Vunderink, 61, of Iowa City died Tuesday, March 7 at her home from ovarian cancer.

Memorial Services will be held Thursday, March 30, 2006 at 11am at the Congregational Church of Christ, 30 Clinton St., Iowa City with Rev. Catherine Quehl-Engel officiating. The family will greet friends Wednesday, 4 to 7pm at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Faith United Church of Christ, Johnson County Democrats, United Way of Johnson County or the donor’s choice.

Pat was born September 27, 1944 in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of Vernon and Pearl
Crosby Vunderink. Pat was raised in Cleveland, where she graduated from John Marshall High School and received her Bachelors Degree from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Pat received her Masters and PhD in business education from Indiana University and her MBA from the University of Iowa. On January 14, 1978 she married Hyman Joseph.

Pat had been employed in the Division of Continuing Education at the University of Iowa.

Pat was a member of Faith United Church of Christ and had been a longtime member of the Congregational United Church of Christ. She was civic minded and active in the Iowa City community as a member of Old Capitol Kiwanis and Project Green. She served on the Boards of the Emma Goldman Clinic and Big Brothers/Big Sisters, as well as the Johnson County Empowerment Board and the Compensation Board. Pat was a graduate of the Iowa City Chamber of Commerce Leadership Program and served on the United Way Allocations Committee. In the political arena, Pat was an involved member of the Johnson County Democrats.

Pat is survived by her husband Hy, her step-son Daniel Harte Joseph of Indianapolis, Indiana; her father Vernon of Cleveland, two sisters, Jan (Jim) Levy of Bedford, TX and Jean Vunderink of Lakewood, OH, one brother Carl (Diane) Vunderink of Lakewood, OH and nieces and nephew, Kelly, Leslie, Carly and Scott.

Pat was preceded in death by her mother.
