Ruby Romelle Cozine

Ruby was born on August 7, 1919, in Columbus Junction, IA. She was the oldest daughter of Herman and Clara Lake Zimmerman. Ruby graduated from Solon High School in 1935, valedictorian of her class and married William (Bill) Cozine in 1937, in “Old Brick” Presbyterian Church, Iowa City. She worked along side her husband on the family farm located 7 miles east of Iowa City, where they had a family of five children. In 1962 they moved to Mayfield Road in Iowa City where Ruby eventually worked for Halls Gift Shop, Cards Etc, and The First National Bank, where she retired from in 1981.

Ruby was a woman of many talents. She took County Extension classes and taught herself to sew, cook, garden, can foods, cane chairs, work with stained glass, knit, crochet, refinish furniture and repair almost anything. She was one of the founding members of the West Branch chapter of TTT, was active in the Presbyterian Church, belonged to the PTA of West Branch and the TPM Club which was philanthropic in nature. She enjoyed the Farm Bureau Women’s Club and worked at the polls in Iowa City for each election.

Ruby loved her family, friends, neighbors, and children and lived to serve others.

Survivors include: a son, Bill Jr., wife Jeanne of Tucson, AZ; three daughters, Sue Thomas, husband Don, of Arvada, CO; Barbara Bezoni, husband Buzz, of Mt. Pleasant, IA; Patricia Hollrock, husband Rick of S. Deerfield, Mass; a sister, Charlene Clements, of Placentia, CA; a brother, Bill Zimmerman, of Louisville, KY. She had fifteen grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bill, her son David of Iowa City, her sister Patricia Lamar, (Husband John and four children) of Des Moines, IA and her brother Bud Zimmerman of Oxford, IA.

All donations will go to the Alzheimer Research Association.
