Harold Clayton Weir, 86, of Iowa City, died Friday, July 25, 2008 at The VA Medical Center following a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am on Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, 605 Kirkwood Avenue, Iowa City. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4-7pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to The American Parkinson Disease Association or in Harold’s name.

Harold was born March 24, 1922 in Colo, IA, the son of Orville and Nellie (Jones) Weir. He graduated from Colo High School in 1939. From 1942– 1946 Harold served in The United States Army during World War II. He served his last two years of active duty in Europe. In 1946, Harold was united in marriage to Fern Dannen at The Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua, IA. Four years later, Harold went on to graduate from the University of Iowa in 1950 with a degree in Accounting. For more than 25 years, Harold served as the Chief of Accounting for The VA Medical Center in Iowa City.

Harold was a longtime member of The Congregational United Church of Christ and served on various church committees. He was a member of the Marshalltown American Legion and the Colo American Legion. Harold enjoyed keeping his cars in pristine condition, especially his 1991 Cadillac. He loved to travel and spend time with his family. He greatly cherished the time he had with his grandchildren and great- grandson. Harold was the true definition of a “family man”.

Harold is survived by his loving wife Fern, one daughter Alberta Weir Aldahl and her two sons Peter and Timothy, all of Northfield, MN, two sons; Clayton (Diane) of Coralville and their two daughters Larissa Weir of San Antonio and Jennifer (Luis) Gloria and their son Garrett of Phoenix, AZ, and Dale (Anne) and their son Nathan, all of Iowa City. Harold is also survived by a sister Edna Ward of Ankeny, IA and a brother Vern (Janet) of Corpus Christi, TX.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Ray and a sister Lois Jay.
