Norval Tucker, 83, of 1600 Prairie du Chien Road, Iowa City, died Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at UIHC. Norval was born February 24, 1925 in Farmington, IA, the son of Rollin and Florence Mae (Vance) Tucker. He graduated from Farmington High School in 1942, attended the Ringling School of Art in Sarasota, Florida and earned his B.F.A., M.F.A and Ph.D. from the University of Iowa. For 39 years, Norval was an Associate Professor and Administrative Assistant at the University of Iowa, School of Art and Art History, until his retirement in 1993.

Norval was married to Joan Froberg for 59 years. Norval is survived by his wife Joan, of Iowa City, his daughter Anita Tucker and her husband Alan Lawrence of Cedar Rapids, IA, two sons; Bruce, his wife Bonnie and daughter Molly of Thousand Oaks, CA; David, his wife Annie of Iowa City, their children Naomi and her husband Jose Cabrera, Benjamin, Eric and William; nieces Cindy Brackett of Burlington, IA and Janis Hasenmiller of Chicago, IL. Norval was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and three sisters.

A memorial service will be held at Hickory Grove Meeting House, Scattergood Friends School, 1951 Delta Ave., West Branch, on Sunday afternoon, August, 3 (time tba). A gathering of family and friends will be held at Lensing Funeral Home, 605 Kirkwood Ave., Iowa City on Friday, August 1 from 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Norval's name to the West Branch Friends Meeting (Conservative), P.O. Box 582, West Branch, IA or to the Cedar Rapids Symphony, 119 Third Avenue SE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52403.
