Clyde R. Seaton, Jr., 74, of 2914 Eastwood Drive in Iowa City, died Monday, July 28, 2008 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following a long illness.

Clyde was born August 17, 1933 in Pasadena, California, the son of Clyde R. and Lenora (Sullivan) Seaton, Sr. He graduated from St. Patrick’s High School in Pasadena and attended Pasadena City College. Clyde served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army from 1953 – 1955 during the Korean War.

He married Jean O’Brien Klein on November 25, 1984 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Iowa City. Celebrating that union was Reverend Eugene Benda. Clyde was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Marquette Council 842 in Iowa City. Clyde operated Seaton’s Cash & Carry Market at the corner of Muscatine and Court Streets for 40 years, retiring in 1996. He also operated Seaton’s Steakhouse at the Fairview Golf Course Club House for many years. During his retirement, he worked part-time in the Dietary Department at the Veteran’s Administration Medical Center in Iowa City until 2004.

Clyde was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan his entire life. He was described as rather reserved, even on the shy side, unless he was cheering for his favorite team. He enjoyed playing golf and cooking for family and friends.

Survivors include his wife Jean; daughters, Lori Madden of Florida, Karen Oliphant (Doug) of Wisconsin, Kathy Seaton of Muscatine, sons, Steve Seaton and Larry Seaton (Susan), all of Iowa City; grandchildren, Jason, Heather, Kendra, Gavin, Jessica, Brandon, Derek, Travis, Stephanie and Brittany; 2 great-grandsons, Wesley and Aidan; his mother, Lenora Seaton of Iowa City; 1 brother, Tom Seaton (Bev) of Iowa City; step-sons, Kevin Klein (Mary) of North Liberty, Keith Klein (Kandi) of Cosgrove, Tony Klein (Laura) of North Liberty and a step-daughter, Sheila Klein of Iowa City; step-grandchildren, Jesse, Travis, Chad and Kristin.

Clyde was preceded in death by his father, a sister Carol Morrow, two children, Deborah and Richard and a step-son, Gary Klein.

Instead of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to St. Patrick’s Church Rebuilding Fund in Clyde’s memory.
