James “Jim” R. Worley, 71, of Iowa City died Thursday, May 28, 2009 at the Mercy Hospice of leukemia.

Jim was born November 21, 1937 in Fairfield, Iowa, the son of Clayton and Dorothy Beliel Worley. He was a 1956 graduate of St. Patrick’s High School, Iowa City, and enlisted in the Air Force in 1957. Jim retired as a Master Sergeant from the Air Force in 1977, where he had been an air traffic controller.

Jim was employed at HP Smith Co, now Loparex, for 18 year. He was a dedicated employee and possessed a strong work ethic. Jim loved to travel, do photography, woodworking, work jigsaw puzzles and a birdwatcher.

Jim is survived by his wife Carolyn and their daughters, Joyce (Aaron) Liesch of The Woodlands, Texas and Wendae (Michael) Waite of Iowa City; two granddaughters, Krista and Melissa Liesch; a brother, Lester (Rosemary) Worley of Washington; a sister,
Doris Mineart of Fairfield; and sisters-in-law, Bonnie Worley of Burlington and Evelyn Worley of Washington.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Robert, Verle, Kenneth and Raeferd.
