Allen Christensen, 68

Allen Christensen, 68, of North Liberty, Iowa died on June 6, 2009 after a courageous battle with cancer. Per Allen's wishes, his body was cremated.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 12:30 p.m. on June 21, 2009 at Ms. Susan's in North Liberty. This will be a time for family and friends to share memories, a luncheon will follow.

Survivors include his wife of 48 yrs Andrea (Nortman) Christensen; children Sally (Scott) Cline of Overland Park, KS., Jo Ann Christensen of Tiffin, Steven Christensen, North Liberty, and Amy (Ron) Hardy of Oshkosh, WI., and five grandchildren Hayley Cline, Curtis Cline, Ben Christensen, Eleanor Hardy, and Katherine Hardy. Also surviving are two brothers, Don (Janet) Christensen, Robert (Barbara) Christensen, and a sister Betty (John) Pepper, as well as an extended family of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Allen was the 5th and last child born to James and Leota (Brush) Christensen on September 24, 1940 in Cedar Falls, Iowa. His family moved 13 times during his school years. Allen graduated from West Liberty High School in 1959 and attended the University of Iowa for many years.

On November 25, 1961 he married Andrea Nortman. Throughout their marriage they lived in Atalissa, Cedar Rapids, West Liberty, Coralville and North Liberty. The family shared many wonderful adventures that will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by everyone.

Allen initially began working for the Rock Island Railroad, then for Procter and Gamble of Iowa City for 30 years. Allen was a very valuable employee and made many friends at Proctor and Gamble. Allen retired from Procter and Gamble in 1995.

Allen was always intrigued with technology, especially computers and machinery. He was always evolving toward the "latest and greatest." A motorhead his whole life, Allen was often involved in car repair and restoration. His red 1960 Corvette could be seen around town and at car shows. He enjoyed conversations with fellow motorheads about quality and craftsmanship of everyone's project.

The love of the outdoors had an important place in Allen's life. He was an accomplished fisherman with a number of canoes, boats, gear and supplies for every state and every season. These times with family and friends will be long-remembered.

Allen was preceded in death by his parents and a brother James.
