Jim C. Lynch, 80, of 1720 12th Avenue, Coralville, died Wednesday, February 5, 2003, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Knoxville, Iowa, following an extended illness.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, February 10, 2003, at 10AM at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with the Rev. James Vrba officiating. Burial with military rites by the Coralville American Legion and other local military organizations will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. A luncheon will follow in the church hall. Friends may call at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, Iowa City from 2-6PM, Sunday, where a Parish Vigil Service will be held at 2:30PM and a rosary will be recited at 4PM. A memorial fund has been established.

Jim was born June 4, 1922, in Hills, Iowa, the son of James F. and Blanche VeDepo Lynch. He graduated from St. Mary’s High School and attended barber college in Cedar Rapids. Jim served in the US Army infantry in North Africa and Italy during World War II. Jim received the Purple Heart.

He married Helen Fox on February 5, 1955, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Iowa City.

Jim had been a barber for over thirty six years at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, where he had served on the Parish Council, the Coralville American Legion and Hills Bank Friends Club.

He had a special devotion to the rosary and loved sports, hunting and fishing. Jim especially enjoyed the Chicago Cubs, the St. Louis Cardinals and the Iowa Hawkeyes. He had a great sense of humor, was a creative conversationalist and took delight at storytelling.

He is survived by his wife Helen of Coralville, Five Children, Connie Carder and her husband Dan of Coralville and their children, Brittany and Kelsey, Brenda Lynch Vestal and her husband Allan of Lexington, Kentucky and their children James and Eleanor, Jammie Goedken and her husband Tom of Iowa City and their children Michael and Mac
Jim Lynch and his wife Jill of Coralville and their children Andrea and Claire, Dawn Lynch Nettnin and her husband Fred of Chicago and their children Ella and Irene.

Two Sisters, Cecilia Kessler and her husband Clarence of Cedar Rapids, and Bernadine Goody and her husband Marv of Hills, and One Brother, Cleo Lynch and his wife Pauline of Coralville, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Melvin, and one sister, Lenore Burr.

And moulder in dust away.
