IOWA CITY

Richard C. Kiefer, 79, of 3371 Wentworth Place, Iowa City, died Thursday, February 6, 2003, at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics following a short illness.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 10, 2003, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Iowa City, with the Reverend Kenneth Kuntz, officiating. Military rites will follow at the church provided by the Coralville American Legion Walter Johnson Post #721, assisted by other local military organizations. Friends may call from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, 605 Kirkwood Avenue, Iowa City. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice of Iowa City or the Regina Inter-Parish Education Center.

Richard C. Kiefer was born December 30, 1923, in Riverside, Iowa, the son of Henry and Edna (Heitzman) Kiefer. He was united in marriage to Mary Anne Sladek on July 18, 1950.

Mr. Kiefer is survived by his wife, Mary Anne of Iowa City, son, Joe Kiefer and his wife Debbi of Houston, Texas, two daughters, Julie Kiefer of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Emily Shultz and her husband, Dave of Iowa City, his son, Bill Kiefer and his wife Kay of Johnson, Iowa, eight grandchildren; Pamela, Carolyn and Mark Kiefer, Alex and Sam Lobodiac, Chris and Cory Kiefer and Lauren Kiefer, his sister-in-law, Ella Kiefer of Crown Point, Indiana, two brothers; Don Kiefer and his wife, Norma of Pardeeville, Wisconsin, Paul Kiefer and his wife, Sally of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, two sisters; Maxine Schlapkohl and her husband, Henry of Bella Vista, Arkansas and Jane Davis of Iowa City.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Ardell.
