Ruth G. Kabela, 69, 2714 Friendship St., of Iowa City, died peacefully at home on February 13, 2003, after a long and courageous battle with lymphoma cancer.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 15, 2003 at 10:00 AM at Gloria Dei Church with the Rev. DuWayne Dalen officiating. Friends may call on Friday from 4:00 to 8:00pm at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City and after 9:00 AM Saturday at the church. A luncheon in the church hall will follow the funeral. Committal Services will be at 12:30 PM, Saturday at Fairview Cemetery, northeast of Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Iowa City or Camp Courageous of Iowa, 12007 190th Street, Monticello, Iowa 52310.

Ruth was born December 26, 1933, in Iowa City, Iowa the daughter of Gustav and Lillian Schukas Lindemann. She graduated from Iowa City City High in 1952. On February 23, 1954, she married Kenneth D. Kabela, in Iowa City.

Ruth was a 4-H Leader, and was a member of the Johnson County Fair Board for several years. She was a member of the Johnson County Extension Council, the Johnson County 4-H Youth Committee, the Johnson County Agriculture Association, Gloria Dei Lutheran Church and the Old Capitol Quilters Guild. Ruth volunteered with the Rock N Read program with the Iowa City School District and Mercy Hospital. In her retirement she worked part-time for Hills Bank.

Ruth loved people, flowers, gardening, traveling and quilting. She enjoyed her bridge clubs and playing cards with friends.

She is survived by her husband Kenneth, three daughters, Vicki Bishop and her husband Chip and granddaughters, Briana and Caitlin of Sherrill, Iowa, Karen Harris and grandchildren, Courtney, Mercedes and Sterling all of Iowa City, Iowa, Jenny Hollingsworth and her husband Duane, granddaughter, Nikki Hansen and her husband Trent and grandson Jackson, all of West Branch, Iowa, two brothers, Charles Lindemann and his wife Phyllis and Robert Lindemann and his wife Mary, all of Iowa City, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
