Helen A. Beeler, 92, of North Liberty, died Wednesday, February 5, 2003, at Solon Nursing Care Center after a short illness.

Services will be held Friday at 11:30 AM at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City. Friends may call Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Memorials may be directed to Mooseheart or St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Iowa City.

Helen was born March 23, 1910, in Johnson County, the daughter of Edward & Mary (Cilek) Dvorsky. She attended Rose Hill country school and has been a life-long resident of Johnson County. Helen married John Beeler January 12, 1928, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Solon, Iowa. The couple worked their farm for over 40 years, with Helen still keeping livestock into her 80s.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Iowa City and Iowa City Women of the Moose, Chapter 509, of which she was a member for over 50 years.

Helen is survived by three grandchildren, Ginny York, Lisa Godwin & her husband Chris, and John “Sam” York, all of North Liberty, and five great-grandchildren, James, John, Kelsey & Jordan Godwin and Jason York.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband in 1971, a grandson, James “Dean” York, her brother Fred Dvorsky, and her daughter, Mary Helen York.
