Marilyn S. Trumpp, 81, of Reno, Nevada (formerly of Iowa City), died Sunday, September 7, at Manor Care Skilled Nursing Facility in Reno, Nevada after a long illness.

Marilyn was born August 1, 1927 in Des Moines, Iowa, the daughter of Charles W. Scott and Grayce M. Babbitt Scott. She married Donald G. Trumpp on August 28, 1949 in Des Moines, Iowa.

She earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Iowa, completing her Master’s degree in Spanish in 1950. She taught Spanish and French at City High School from 1950-52. From 1970 until her retirement in 1992, Marilyn taught at Central Junior High and City High.

Marilyn was involved in many organizations including Alpha Xi Delta Sorority, Phi Beta Kappa, C. L. Chapter of T.T.T., the Sherlock Holmes Club, the Pan American League, Amiring Luncheon Club, member of the choir at Zion Lutheran Church and serving on the board of the Iowa City Public Library from 1969-1975.

Marilyn’s great passion in life was speaking and teaching the Spanish language. She helped found the Mosaico Folklorico Latinoamericano, a group of Spanish speakers in Iowa City who performed songs and dances from various countries in Latin America. Marilyn also enjoyed singing in the Zion Lutheran Church choir for many years, and playing bridge each month with a group of women who were among her closest friends.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to Marilyn’s friends, who were so supportive and caring during her illness, as well as to the dedicated staff at Manor Care and VistaCare Hospice of Reno, Nevada.

Survivors include: her daughter, Terri Van Hoozer (Randy) of Reno, Nevada and their daughters Jordan, Natalie and Samantha; her son, Mark Trumpp of Peoria, Arizona and her grandsons Zachary and Spencer Trumpp of Arlington Heights, Illinois

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Donald and son James.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Nevada Caregiver Support Center at the University of Nevada, Reno.
