David M. Goodwin, 61, of Coralville, IA died Wednesday September 3, 2008 in Coralville. Funeral Services will be held at a later date in Uniontown, Pennsylvania. In lieu of flowers, friends are encouraged to make contributions to the David Goodwin Endowment Fund for the Arts at Coe College.

David was born on February 15, 1947 in Uniontown, PA to Francis and Eleanor (Leach) Goodwin. He received his B.A. in Fine Arts from Dennison University and his M.F.A. from Ohio University. David became a faculty member at Coe College in 1974 in the Art department as the historian. As the Art Historian, the range of his expertise was both broad and deep, including Renaissance and Baroque, the Art of China and Japan and 19th and 20th century painting and sculpture. David was the Holder of the Marvin Cone Endowed Chair since 1995.

A quote from one of David’s colleagues David occupied a unique position in the art department, and, indeed, in the College. Teaching in two areas of the department and in four different and distinct areas of the College (Art History, Studio Art, College Honors, and Asian Studies), David functioned as the intellectual center of the art department and as a bridge to many disciplines outside the art department.
