Miss Margaret M. Schindhelm, 78, a former school principal here, died at the Iowa City Extended Care Center Tuesday after a long illness.

Requiem high mass will be Thursday at 9 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, and burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery. The rosary will be recited today at 7 p.m. at the Donohue Mortuary.

Miss Schindhelm was born in Iowa City on June 29, 1891, daughter of August and Mary Schleiter Schindhelm. She was a graduate of St. Marys High School and the University of Iowa. Following graduation she taught school at Essex, Iowa.

She returned to Iowa City in 1919 and became a teacher at the Henry Sabin School, where she became principal in 1945. She was one of the founders of the school's Parent-Teachers Association. In later years she taught at St. Mary's elementary School until her retirement.

She was a member of St. Mary's Church, its Altar and Rosary Society, a charter member of the Altrusa Club, and the Iowa State Teachers Association.

Surviving is a nephew, William E. Schindhelm of Iowa City.
