Genevieve M. Rohret, 89, of Iowa City died Sunday, May 17, 2009 at the Mercy Hospice
following a brief illness.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10am, Wednesday, May 20th at St. Peter’s Church in Cosgrove with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from 4 to 7pm
at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, where a rosary will be recited at 4:30pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice or the Mercy Hospital Foundation for the Mercy Hospice.

Genevieve was born September 14, 1919 in rural Johnson County, the daughter of Mearl and Marie Maher Leeney. She grew up in Cosgrove and graduated from Cosgrove High School in 1939. On November 27, 1939 Genevieve married Paul “Pat” Rohret at St. Peter’s Church in Cosgrove.

Pat and Genevieve farmed for many years in the Cosgrove area and raised purebred angus cattle. They moved to Iowa City in 1968 where she was employed at UIHC for 24 years, retiring in 1981.

Genevieve was a member of St. Patrick’s Church and the Altar and Rosary Society.

Survivors include four daughters, Elaine (Dan) Gockel of Iowa City, Mary Ellen (Vern)
Genzlinger of Red Wing, MN, Jeanette (Keith) Mickelson of Stillwater, MN, and Barb Ford of Iowa City; ten grandchildren, Lynn (Randy) Hudachek of Iowa City, Dan (Kelly)
Gockel of Rock Falls, IL, Katherine Gockel of Washington DC, Teresa (Bruce) Motheral of Longmont, CO, Eric (Michelle) Hudson of St. Paul, MN, Kelley Linquist of Woodbury, MN, Kristin Mickelson of New Brighton, MN, Heather (Tom) McGannon of Eden Prairie, MN, Kathleen (Glen) Forbes of Nichols, and Robert (Jennifer) Ford of Oskaloosa; fourteen great grandchildren and her sister, Veronica Krehlik of Iowa City.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
