Marjorie Kemp, 81

Marjorie Richardson Kemp, 81, of Iowa City, and formerly of Waterloo and Vinton, died on April 6 at Oaknoll Retirement Community in Iowa City.

A memorial gathering will be held on April 26 from noon to 3:00 p.m. at her residence and flower garden.

Marjorie Elizabeth was born March 11, 1928 in Vinton to Ashley and Elsie (Schmidt) Richardson. She married Robert Kemp on June 2, 1951.

She is survived by her sister, Ruth Richardson of Vinton, brother Ralph Richardson of St. Louis Park, MN, daughter Valerie Kemp of Iowa City, and son Stephen Kemp of Pittman Center, TN. She was preceded in death by son, Bruce, and her parents.

Marjorie graduated from the University of Northern Iowa and was an enthusiastic teacher with Iowa City public schools from 1969-1993. She and others were instrumental in starting organized sports programs for female athletes at junior high schools in the city. Her passions included American history, flower gardening, and dance.
