Services:Funeral Services will be held at noon on Friday January 16, 2009 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Sumner, IA. There will be a private family burial at the church cemetery.
Visitation:Visitation will be from 4:30-6:30 pm Thursday at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, Iowa City. There also will be a visitation at the church on Friday from 11-12 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Iowa City Hospice.
Elmer Paul Tiedt (Shorty), 81, of 1010 Scott Park Dr, Iowa City, IA died Monday January 12, 2009 at his home.

Elmer was born on February 26, 1927 in Sumner, IA to Elmer and Elsie (Nolte) Tiedt. Elmer married Beverly (Ganske) on January 5, 1949. Together they had 3 children. Beverly died December 8, 1968. Elmer then married Nina Martin in October of 1969. They later divorced.

Elmer owned Elmer’s Excavating from 1960 to 1970. He then worked for Bjornsen Construction Company as a Heavy Equipment Operator until his retirement in 1984. In his early years, he enjoyed boating on the Mississippi with family and friends. In his retirement years, he enjoyed his trips to Arizona, working at PIP Printing and watching the Cubs games with his “buddy” Betty Truesdell. He also enjoyed his trips to the casino with his grandchildren. Elmer will always be remembered for his sense of humor.

Elmer is survived by his children: Dan (Pam) Tiedt of Iowa City, Sue (Bob) Rife of Palm Bay, FL, Janice (Steve) Mozingo of Manchester, grandchildren: Jodi Goldie, Dan Tiedt, Kris Diehl, Matt, Melissa and Katie Mozingo, Jason Rife and Lisa Santos, great grandchildren: Elliott Roebuck, Emmie Diehl and Avery Payne, and his siblings: Marvin Tiedt of Sumner and Verla Drollinger of Iowa City.
