Services:Mary’s wishes were to be cremated. There will be a family memorial at a later date. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Iowa City Animal Shelter.

Mary C. Hanrahan, 82, of 3661 Rochester Ave, Iowa City, died Friday January 16, 2009 at Iowa City Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.

Mary was born on May 5, 1926 in Oxford, Iowa to Cyril and Esther (Smith) Bireline. She graduated from Iowa City High School. Mary married Robert Hanrahan in Iowa City on March 7, 1947. Mary worked at Economy Advertising, Eagles Supermarket and then cooked at many of the family’s bars.

Mary is survived by her four children: Mike (Karla) Hanrahan of Wellman, Pat Hanrahan of Iowa City, Tim (Erin) Hanrahan of Bemidji, MN and Pam (Bob) Hanes of Iowa City, eight grandchildren and six Great Grandchildren, a Great-great grandchild, three sisters (Marilyn, Virginia and Barb) and a special friend Barbara Langenberg.

Mary lived on the Iowa River for many years and enjoyed the wildlife. She was a wonderful cook and an avid Cubs and Hawkeye fan. Her Springer Spaniels were always a part of her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Robert, her grandson Brandon and her Springer Spaniels.
