Services:A private family burial service was held at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Iowa City on February 2nd. A Memorial Service will be held following the greeting time at 2:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Iowa City Hospice, 1025 Wade Street, Iowa City, Iowa, 52240.
Visitation:The family will greet friends Saturday, February 14th from 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm at Lensing Funeral Service in Iowa City.

Barbara Jo Sweeting Lininger, 64, of Bettendorf, Iowa, died February 1, 2009, at home surrounded by loving family and friends.

She was born September 17, 1944, in Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of Carson and Elvira Droll Sweeting. She was the 3rd of 5 siblings. On June 25, 1966, she married Neil Lininger in Iowa City in a double wedding at St. Mary's Catholic Church with her sister Cherie and Bernie Cremers.
Barb graduated from Iowa City High School in 1962 and graduated from the University Of Iowa College of Nursing in 1966. She started her career in nursing at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. In recent years she practiced nursing in several family practice offices and most recently at the Trinity Center for Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine (Diversified Therapy) at Trinity @ Terrace Park Medical Center in Bettendorf, Iowa.
She is survived by her daughter, Stephanie Lininger of Iowa City, daughter Shelley (John) Aldrich of Camarillo, California, son Jason (Lisa) Lininger of Mesa, Arizona, and son Justin Lininger of Bettendorf, Iowa, her grandchildren Trevor Greer, Mackenzie Greer, Evan Lininger, Emma Lininger, and Schafer Aldrich, Sisters Karen (Bob) Rorex of Iowa City, Cherie (Bernie) Cremers of Iowa City, Patsy (Dana) Mills of Milwaukee, WI and Diane (Al) Williamson of Iowa City, her ex-husband, Neil Lininger of Fallon, NV, and many nieces and nephews.

Ms. Lininger was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mary Jo and her parents.

Barb was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother. Her kindness and generosity extended not only to her friends and family but also to her many patients from over her years of nursing. Barb loved to spend her time with friends, taking nature walks, antiquing, gardening, traveling and reading.

The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to the staff and volunteers from Iowa City Hospice for their tender and constant care during her final days. The staff at Trinity Medical Center, Bettendorf took wonderful care of her during her cancer battle. Lastly, the family is also very grateful to the many friends who assisted her by providing transportation, shopping, and looking after her home, while showing her much love and attention.
