Services:Funeral Services will be held at 11:30 am Friday February 6, 2009 at the Newman Catholic Student Center, 104 E. Jefferson, Iowa City, IA.
Visitation:Visitation will be from 10-11:30 am Friday at the Newman Center. Father Ed Fitzpatrick will officiate. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice of the Valley (1510 E. Flower Street, Phoenix, AZ 85014)A memorial service will be held at a later date in Phoenix, AZ.
Paul Joseph Nolan, 91, of Phoenix, AZ died Saturday January 31, 2009 in Chandler, AZ.

Paul was born on January 5th, 1918 to Neil and Dolena (Schaffer) Nolan on the family farm in Johnson County, IA. He attended country school through 8th grade and graduated from St. Patrick’s High School in 1935. Paul married Una Lee Butler on June 15, 1940 in Iowa City.

Paul farmed in the Iowa City area until 1960 and then employed at Pepperidge Farm and Miller Brothers Lumber until moving to Phoenix in 1967. He was a salesman at Arizona Sash and Door until his retirement in 1984.

Paul will be remembered as a loving and generous family man, always kind and good humored. He especially enjoyed woodworking, camping and travel with his family.

Paul is survived by five daughters: Sherrie (Robert) Panther of Iowa City, Barbara (Edward) Mellecker of Tipton, Iowa, Susan (David) Cassady of Cornelius, Oregon, Kathleen (Gavin) McLeod of Phoenix, Arizona, Corinne (Richard) Beaver of Spring, Texas, twelve grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and one sister, Florence (C.William) Phillips of Iowa City.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, his wife in 1987, grandson Manny Cassady, two brothers: Francis and Leo, and a sister Catherine Martin.
