Dennis L. Bissell, 47, of Coralville died Thursday, September 25, 2008 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City of cancer

Funeral Services will be held at 4pm, Monday, September 28, 2008 at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, Iowa City with Rev. John White officiating. Following the service friends are welcome to a gathering at Northridge Park Pavilion in Coralville. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday from 4 to 7pm at the funeral home in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice or Mercy Hospital Foundation.

Dennis was born on April 8, 1961 in Cedar Rapids. He was a 1979 graduate of Center Point High School, where he was the class valedictorian and was a member of the football and track teams. On September 12, 1987 Dennis married Kathy Enneking in an outdoor ceremony at Pleasant Creek Park near Palo.

Dennis was a journeyman carpenter for SWA Construction for over seven years. He was a member of New Life Community Church, where he served as a deacon and had been head of the church property team. Dennis offered his talents at church by playing the guitar and making communion trays and a prayer bench. Dennis built the home that he and his family reside in, and also handcrafted many of the homes features. He loved to boat and fish, and was a member of Carpenters Union #308.

Dennis is survived by his wife and their two daughters Sasha and Shana of Coralville; his parents, Earl and Mary Ann Bissell of Center Point; two brothers, Ron (Juanita) Bissell of Center Point, John (Angie) Bissell of West Bend, WI; one sister, Kristy Michael of St. Charles, IL., his in-laws, Dick (Billie) Enneking of Marion, Donna (Lloyd) Banks of Cedar Rapids; his brother and sisters- in- law, Nancy Culey of Fairview, NC; Dennis (Peggy) Enneking Marion, Julie (Danny) Thede of Indianola, Sharon Enneking of Marion; and his dog Scamp and his cat Wally.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents
