Gerhard W. Krapf, formerly of Iowa City, passed away on July 2, 2008, at the age of 83 years. He was interred in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on July 5.
Gerhard came to Iowa City in the early '60s where he established the organ department in the University of Iowa School of Music.
In the late 1970s he moved to Edmonton, when asked to build an organ department there. He was a brilliant musician and organist, composer, and dedicated teacher. Family, friends and students cherished his wisdom, compassion and effervescent sense of humor. He will be greatly missed.
Gerhard is survived by his loving wife, Trudl; four children, one brother, one sister, and four grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to the University of Iowa Foundation for the benefit of the University of Iowa School of Music Organ Department.
(In 1964 Gerhard served as the organ consultant to Architect Harvey W. Henry in the design of Zion Lutheran Church in Iowa City.)
