Wayne was born February 28, 1921, in Minneapolis, MN. Following graduation from high school, he entered the United States Navy in 1940 beginning a long career that would span over twenty years. He served in two wars, World War II and the Korean Conflict, retiring at the rank of E-9 Master Chief. One of his proudest accomplishments in his navy career was being the first person promoted as First Master Chief in the Air Contolman Rating; another was that he was a survivor of the Pearl Harbor attack of December 7, 1941. Upon his retirement from active service he joined the FAA as an air traffic controller.

He was united in marriage to Alice M. Schropp on November 4, 1964 in East Dubuque, Iowa. Because of his career, they resided in many parts of the country, and even after retirement from the FAA in 1972, it was a time before he "settled down" in Mississippi. Wayne enjoyed life, a passion for old cars and airplanes, but down deep was his love of weather. Throughout his life he has been fascinated with meterology, with the "Weather Channel" being his favorite one to watch.

His family includes his two sons, Mike Nash and his wife, Cassie of Leonardtown, MD; and Greg Nash of Westport, WI; step-children, Rodney Roshek and his wife, Rosie of Wright City, MO, and Darla Heuring and her husband, Jesse of Boaz, KY; grandchildren, Brendan Nash, Carson Nash, Brandi Jones, Christie (????), Ryan Roshek, and Randy Roshek.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Alice on March 12, 1987, and a brother and sister.
