DEATH TOUCHES OLD TIME CITIZEN
Worthy Pioneer Came Here in 1840-Was One of Johnson County's Very First Settlers.

Johnson county lost one of her very first settlers last night, just before midnight, when at his home, 813 Bowery street, Joseph T. Brown passed away.

He was 81 years of age, and had lived here since 1840, when the town was newly born. He had been ill, of old age, for about 5 months. He leaves four children, Luther R. Brown, Mrs. Cloyes Wilson and Mrs. Thomas Applegate, Iowa City; and Mrs. Millie Daniel, of Shelby, Neb.

He was one of the most-esteemed of our pioneers, and during nearly 70 years' residence here he won scores of warm friends, and made very few enemies. His heart was warm, his nature, true, and his citizenship of the highest order.

The funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon, at 1 o'clock, from the family residence. The officiating clergyman will be Rev. A. Schwimley. The remains will be laid to rest in the Brick chapel cemetery, east of Iowa City.
