Stroke Sunday Morning Fatal to Former Alderman

Charles B. Crain, 59, 714 East Burlington street, lifelong resident of Johnson County and former fifth ward alderman in Iowa City, suffered a stroke and died suddenly at his home at 11 o’clock Sunday morning.

Born in Fremont Township January 18, 1882, Mr. Crain also served as city treasurer from 1915 to 1918. He was a member of the city council in 1925 and 1926.

Mr. Crain married Marian Campbell September 19, 1906, in Jefferson, Ore. He was a member of the Iowa City Presbyterian Church and the Masonic Lodge.

He was affiliated with the Johnson County Savings bank 21 years, later joined an insurance company and at the time of this death was employed by an insulation firm.

Survivors include his widow; three sons, John Crain of San Fernando, Calif.; Jerome Crain of North Hollywood, Calif.; and Allan Crain, at home; two daughters, Mrs. Priscilla Thompson of Little Rock, Ark., and Miss Kathryn Crain of Palo Alto, Calif.

Funeral arrangements have not yet been completed. The remains are at Beckman’s
