From the Lone Tree Reporter, Lone Tree, Iowa dated Friday, April 10, 1896:

DEATH OF LITTLE FREDDIE CARL

The saddest funeral held here for a long time was that of little Freddie Carl, the youngest child of F. T. Carl, Sunday afternoon at two o'clock.

Little Freddie had been ailing for nearly three weeks and his constitution was too weak to wear out the disease and, though he had the best of care by both family and physicians, he died Saturday morning. The funeral was held from the M. E. church where an immense crowd was assembled. Many could not even find standing room in the church, and thus the street was lined with people who listened silently to the excellent words of sympathy extended to the bereaved relatives by the pastor Rev. Hightshoe.

From the moment the white, flower strewn casket of little Freddie was born up the aisle, there was a profound and sympathetic silence - a quiet that was oppressive with its weight of sorrow. Little Freddie was always a well behaved little man wherever he was and was never known to be offensive to his little playmates, who loved his company. Though never knowing the value of a mother's love, she having died when he was quite small, he had the tenderest care of a father who always cared for him and never allowed him to want for anything to make his little life pleasant. He was regular in attendance at Sunday school and was loved by all his classmates to whom this going away of their little friend seemed a strange and awful mystery as they viewed the remains for the last time and touched his cold hands, so lately warm and eager, reaching out for all the beautiful things of life.

Freddie Carl was born July 14, 1888; died April 4, 1896; aged 7 years, 8 months and 21 days.

Card of Thanks

Mr. Fred Carl and family desire to express their heartfelt thanks to all who so kindly assisted them by aid and sympathy during the sickness and death of little Freddie.
