Inez Waldschmidt Wright Brant, age 84, formerly of 954 Davenport Street, Iowa City died Thursday, January 2, 2003 at the Hiawatha Care Center in Hiawatha, Iowa from complications of Alzheimer’s disease.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, January 6, 2003 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Iowa City with the Reverend Michael Phillips officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 3 to 7pm Sunday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City where a scripture service will be held at 7pm Sunday evening. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in her memory to the Alzheimer’s Association @ 1642 42nd. Street NE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52402 or the Hiawatha Care Center @ 405 N. 15th. Avenue, Hiawatha, Iowa 52233.

Inez was born February 9, 1918, in Riverside, Iowa the daughter of Joseph and Viola (Kunneman) Waldschmidt. She married George Wright on October 20, 1941; he died September 3, 1977. She later married long-time family friend, Elmer Brant on September 29, 1979, he died June 29, 2002. For over twenty-two years, she worked for the University of Iowa Printing Service, retiring in 1981.

She was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Iowa City.

Her family includes a daughter and her husband, Pat and Tom Matthes of Marion, a son and his wife, Tom and Paula Wright of Latour, MO; step-children, Barbara Krall and her husband, Chuck of West Branch; Peggy Stoner of Moline, IL; Emily K. Starbuck of Lehigh Acres, FL; and William “Bill” Brant and his wife, Barb of Ankeny; four grandchildren, including Deb Matthes of North Liberty and Darren Matthes and his wife, Cindy of Sioux Falls, SD; eleven step-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, step-great-grandchildren; and a sister, LaVerne Schnoeblen.

Inez was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, George and Elmer; five brothers, Emmett, Earl, Hubert, Albert and Ralph; and six sisters, Gertrude, Florence, Amilda, Loretta, Elaine and Mary,
