Rev. Herman A. Strub, 95, of the Kahl Home for Aged and Infirm, died Monday, July 10, 2000, at the Kahl Home.

Services will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Holy Family Catholic Church. Burial will be in the Priest Circle at Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Thursday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Ambrose University in his name. Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home in Davenport is in charge of arrangements.

Rev. Strub was born July 21, 1904, in Iowa City, to H. A. and Anna (Katz) Strub. He attended St. Mary Elementary and St. Mary High School in Iowa City. He graduated from St. Ambrose College in 1930. He also attended the University of Iowa and the St. Paul Seminary in St. Paul, Minn. He was ordained May 10, 1934, at the Sacred Heart Cathedral by Bishop Henry Rohlman.

His assignments for the Diocese included parochial vicar at St. Joseph in Hills in 1934, and as administrator of both St. Joseph and St. Mary in Lone Tree in 1935. He was parochial vicar at St. Mary in Iowa City from 1935 to 1942. From 1942 to 1945, he was a chaplain for the U.S. Army during World War II. He served most of this time in New Guinea. After the war, he received a master's degree in sacred scriptures from the Catholic University of America. He was parochial vicar at Holy Family in Davenport for two years until 1948, when he became pastor of St. Boniface in Farmington and St. Mary in String Prairie until 1949. In 1949, and for most of his ministry, he taught sacred scripture at St. Ambrose University. From 1952 to 1967, he was the Diocesan director of the Confraternity for Christian Doctrine. He retired from the faculty at St. Ambrose in 1984 and moved to the Kahl Home in 1993.

Survivors include Carl Strub, Jr., and family of Iowa City.
