John M. Strub, 83, of 421 Garden St., died Monday, July 10, 2000, at Mercy Hospital after a long illness.

Graveside services will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday at Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City with the Rev. Samuel Hahn officiating.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service. Memorials may be made to Mercy Home Health Care.

Mr. Strub was born Feb. 4, 1917, in Johnson County, to Maynard J. and Della M. (Lovetinsky) Strub. He attended schools in Iowa City. He was a carpenter for more than 50 years, working with McCreedy Construction in Iowa City for many years. He had served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, both in Europe and at sea. He had been a lifelong Iowa City resident.

He was a member of the Iowa City American Legion and VFW and Disabled American Veterans.

Survivors include several cousins and good friends, Dick and Judy Dobson of Iowa City and their children, Cheri Marchael of Iowa City and Michael Dobson of Waterloo.
