Omer John “O.J”. Letts, age 80 of Coralville died Tuesday, December 17, 2002, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

Funeral services will be held at 9:00 a.m., Friday, December 20, 2002, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Iowa City with the Reverend Rudolph Berndt officiating. Burial will be at St. Vincent Cemetery near Riverside. There will be a luncheon served at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Riverside following the services at the cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7pm today at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City where a parish rosary will be said at 7pm this evening. In leiu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Regina Foundation or Home Health Care.

Omer was born February 14, 1922 in Iowa City the son of Earl and Louise (Schnoebelen) Letts. On October 30, 1941, Omer married Betty R. Glaspey in Iowa City. For a number of years Omer was a sales representative for Swails Refrigeration, he then worked as a housing inspector for the cities of Cedar Rapids, and Iowa City, and later as a building inspector for the the city of University Heights and the City of Coralville where he retired.

Omer’s family includes his wife, Betty; daughters and their husbands, Lynda and Les Stratton of Coralville, and Patty and Tom Gahan of Iowa City; four grandsons, Dan Cannon and his fiance’, Rebecca Dempsey of Clinton, MO, Bob and his wife, Mic Cannon of North Liberty, Matt and his wife, Cheri Gahan of Tiffin, and Andy and his wife, Emily Gahan of Iowa City; four great-grandchildren, Payton Cannon, Jacob Gahan, Mitchell Gahan, and Elizabeth Gahan; one sister and her husband, Margaret and Tony Quintilla of Mission, TX; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Leta and Max Seaton of Hills; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ervin Letts.
