Vivien D. Strauss, 62, of 254 Black Springs Circle, passed on to Heaven Sunday, December 8, 2002, at her home following a lengthy illness.

Funeral Services will be held at 11AM Thursday, December 12, 2002 at Parkview Evangelical Free Church, 15 Foster Road, Iowa City, with the Reverend Steve Rachke, officiating. Family committal services will be in Oakland Cemetery, Iowa City. Friends may call from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, 605 Kirkwood Avenue, Iowa City and at the church after 10AM, Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Heritage Christian School, 2709 N. Dubuque St., North Liberty, IA 52317 or Iowa City Hospice, 1025 Wade Street, Iowa City, IA 52240

Vivien D. Strauss was born August 13, 1940 in Berea, Ohio, the daughter of Joseph and Helen Shrock Douglas and lived in Lakewood, Ohio for many years.

She graduated from Capital University with a BA in Christian Elementary Education in 1962 and was an elementary school teacher in Green Hills, Ohio. She was united in marriage to Dr. Ronald Strauss on August 11, 1962 in Cleveland, Ohio.

The couple made their home in Boston, Massachusetts; Fairfield, California; Memphis, Tennessee; Cincinnati,Ohio. They moved to Iowa City in 1976. She was a member of the Parkview Evangelical Free Church, P.E.O. Chapter KZ, and was previously a member of the Zion Lutheran Church. Vivien had been active with the Iowa City Swim Club, the Chamber Singers and was active in church groups at Zion Lutheran Church and Parkview Evangelical Church.

Vivien is survived by her husband, Dr. Ronald Strauss of Iowa City, three daughters; Dawn Downs and her husband, Glenn and their children; Charles, Hannah, Abigail and William of Cincinnati, Ohio, Amy Baker and her husband, David and their children; Ryan, Haley and Zachary all of Coralville, Heidi Colony and her husband Chad and their children; Taylor Vivien and Kylie, her mother, Helen Douglass and her sister, Joleen Pearson and her husband, Ronald all of Cincinnati, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Douglass.
