Barbara J. “Barb” Hart, 55, of 1044 Vine Avenue in Riverside, died Saturday morning, December 7, 2002, at Mercy Hospital following a lengthy illness.
A Celebration of Barbara’s Life will be held Wednesday at 11:00 AM at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City, with Reverend Bernard Wear officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Iowa City. Friends may call Tuesday from 4:00 PM to 6:30 PM at the funeral home. Instead of flowers, Barbara requested that memorials may be directed to either The Audubon Society or St. Francis Veterinary Clinic in Riverside.
Barb was born April 7, 1947 in Iowa City, the daughter of Donald John and Dolores (Burnett) Walton. She was raised and attended schools in Iowa City. On July 5, 1963 she married Tom Hart in Rock Island, Illinois. The couple has made their home in Riverside since 1987. Barbara worked in the Facilities Services Group for the University of Iowa, starting in 1978 and retiring in 1996. She also owned & operated, with her husband, The Sugar & Spice Bakery in Iowa City.
Barb is survived by her husband, Tom of Riverside, her beloved cat Boots, a son, Charles “Chuck” Hart; a daughter, Cindy Phelps and her husband Russ, all of Iowa City; five grandchildren; Natasha, Jadyn, Amanda, B.J. and Rusty; her parents, Donald and Dolores Walton of Iowa City, her brother, Bob Walton and his wife, Thea of Iowa City, three sisters, Donna Mullinnix and her husband, Don of Riverside, Pat Bowman of Iowa City and Jerri Walton of Jackson, Mississippi and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by an infant sister, Angela Walton, a brother-in -law, Danny Bowman, grandfathers, Charles Burnett & Harry Walton and grandmothers, Marie Burnett & Loretta Walton Kelly.
