IOWA CITY

Joseph J. Ewalt, 61, of 2801 Hwy. 6 E. #150, died Sunday morning, December 1, 2002 at his home following a short illness.

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 4, 2002, at the Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, 605 Kirkwood Avenue, Iowa City, with the Reverend James Vrba, officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Iowa City. Friends may call from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Joseph J. Ewalt Memorial Fund.

Joseph J. Ewalt was born December 22, 1940 in Iowa City, the son of Myron “Pip” and Helen Kathryn (Langenberg) Ewalt. He was raised and educated in Iowa City. He worked as a State of Iowa correctional officer for fifteen years and later worked security at the University of Iowa Museum of Art. He especially enjoyed the St. Louis Cardinals, playing Euchre with his friends and playing and coaching fast pitch softball.

Joe is survived by four sisters; Carole Frese and her husband, Gerald of Watkins, Iowa, Shirley Schulte of Iowa City, Ellen Becker and her husband, Dave of Seymour, Iowa, Susan Ewalt of Iowa City, two brothers; Don Ewalt of North Liberty and Tom Ewalt of Washington.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Jane.
