Maxine E. Montgomery, 85 formerly of Iowa City died Saturday, September 15, 2007, at the Lone Tree Health Care Center.
Family services will take place with burial at the Oxford Cemetery. Donations can be made in her memory to the Building Fund at St. Mark United Methodist Church in Iowa City. Online condolences may be sent for her family through the web @ www.gayandciha.com.
Maxine Evelyn Penton Montgomery was born in Omaha, NE the daughter of Everett and Gertrude (Haviland) Penton. Her family moved from Des Moines to Albuquerque, NM when she was in high school. She married Russell Gaudineer (of Des Moines) in Albuquerque. They returned to Des Moines after their marriage, and later moved to Iowa City in 1953. The couple divorced in 1960. She married Ira Jay Montgomery in 1961. She worked for the audit/personnel department for Sears for thirteen years. Then she and her husband, Jay opened Pump House Antiques in West Branch, IA. She specialized in glassware and china. For many years she and Jay headed south in their motorhome to join other snowbirds in Corpus Christi, Texas. During the winter months they did antique shows in Kansas City, Houston, Oklahoma City, New Orleans and other cities. After 22 years, they closed the antique shop and retired to Iowa City.
She was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church and a 50-year member of the Jessamine Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star. Maxine enjoyed her neighborhood coffee group, the Hi-Lo Card Club in West Branch and cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes!
Her family includes two daughters and their husbands, Carol and Michael Cain of Iowa City, and Annette and Jerald Hosier of Collierville, TN; grandchildren, Kevin Hosier, Mark Hosier, and Lisa Cain; great-grandchildren, Christina Hosier Gossett, Deborah Hosier, Matthew Hosier, and Amelia Cain; and one great-great-grandson, Calvin Gossett.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jay; and five year old son, Steven Gaudineer.
