Elizabeth “E.J.” Thoman, 44, died peacefully on Tuesday, September 11, 2007 at The Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, IA following a courageous battle with cancer.
A Memorial Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 15, 2007 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with the Reverend Rudolph Juarez officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery at 3:30 p.m. Saturday. Friends may call Friday from 3-8 p.m. at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, 605 Kirkwood Avenue, where a rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. and a Vigil Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to The Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy.
E.J. was born May 17th, 1963 in Iowa City, the daughter of Francis and Dorothy (Penney) Thoman. She was a 1981 graduate of City High and later graduated from The University of Iowa in 1986.
For more than 20 years, E.J. worked for both the UIHC as a Project Assistant in the Health Information Management Department and Mercy Hospital in Emergency Room Registration.
E.J. was an avid Hawkeye fan. She was a loyal friend who maintained her friendship with many in Iowa and San Diego, California. She loved to take pictures, watch movies and truly enjoyed spending time with her nieces and nephews.
E.J. is survived by her boyfriend Tom Gille of Darlington, WI and their four precious cats: Sneakers, Tommy, Jeri and Lucky, her three brothers: Joseph of Cedar Falls, IA and his children Jeremy, Jennifer and Kyle, Francis Jr. “Bill” (Debbie) of Iowa City and their children Susan, Steven and Tim, and Daniel of Cedar Falls, IA and his daughter Naomi, three sisters: Ann (Eric) Seydel of San Diego, CA and their children Alexandria, Jacqueline, Halle and Luke, Deborah (Michael) Engaldo of Santee, CA and their children Melissa, Tony and Andrew, and Mary (Rick) Cross of Iowa City and their children Shane, Caitlin and Melanie. She is also survived by her late brother Jack’s daughter Elise.
E.J. was preceded in death by her parents and a brother John “Jack”.
