Patricia Speers, 70 of rural Oxford died at her home Monday, September 10, 2007, following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, September 13, 2007, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Oxford, with burial at the Oxford Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7pm Wednesday at the church. A memorial fund has been established in Pat's memory. Online condolences may be sent for her family through the web @ www.gayandciha.com.
Patricia Elizabeth Potter Speers was born September 21, 1936, in Iowa City the daughter of Willis and Mary (Mahoney) Potter. She graduated from St. Patrick's High School in 1953. On September 4, 1954, she married James Richard Speers at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Iowa City. Following their marriage the couple and their family lived in Iowa City, Denison, Boone, Cedar Falls, returning to this area in 1969 when they moved to rural Oxford. For many years Pat was associated with the Dutton-Lanik insurance Agency in Iowa City before her retirement. Before that she assisted in the first years of operation of the Amana Holiday Inn.
She will be remembered by many family and friends for her love of family, reading, crossword puzzles, her flowers, gardening, traveling, and her passion for the casinos. She liked to win!
Her family includes her husband, J.R.; children, Robert Speers, Debra Scheetz and her husband, Joe, Rick Speers and his wife, Manette, and Geri Swain and her husband, Brian all of Oxford; ten grandchildren, Canon, Adison, Kiley Speers; Melanie Reese and her husband, Stacy, Elizabeth and Jodie Scheetz, Brandon Speers and his wife, Chelsy; Jason Speers and his wife, Teriany; Justin Speers, and Cory Miller; four great-grandchildren, Anna and Kobly Reese, and Nathan and Lucas Speers; sisters, Colleen Mosley of Simi Valley, CA; Doris Wildman of Iowa City, and Carol Ketchum of North Liberty; brother, Paul Potter and his wife, Mary of Iowa City; brother-in-law, Kenneth Cherry of Springfield, OH; numerous nieces and nephews, and her dearest friend, Delores Hagen of Cedar Falls, Iowa.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents.
