Dean V. Carlton, 59 of rural North Liberty died suddenly, Tuesday, August 7, 2007 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

A celebration of Dean's life will be held at 3pm Friday, August 10, 2007, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. There will be a time of refreshments and fellowship that follows. Online condolences can be sent through the web @ www.gayandciha.com. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Dean's memory.

Dean Vance Carlton was born May 27, 1948, in Iowa City the son of Burl D. and Eleanor M. (Wanner) Carlton. Dean grew up in Iowa City attending Iowa City schools, graduating from City High School in 1966. For over 25 years he worked for Hansen Manufacturing, and most recently he was associated with Optical Mechanics, Inc. If you knew Dean you knew his love of the outdoors and hunting and that he was pretty good when it came to skeet shooting. You knew a man that loved to listen to "his music", and spend time with his family and many friends; most of all you knew a good man!

Dean's family includes his loving life partner, Mary Westbrook; his parents, Eleanor and Burl Carlton of Iowa City; brother, Dennis Carlton of Rapid City, SD; nephew, Kane Carlton and his wife, Laurie and their children, Alexandria, Kaden, and Kaleb; Mary's family, her parents, Thornton and Maureen Westbrook of Brookings, SD; her sisters, Anne Westbrook of Brookings, SD, and Nancy Westbrook and her husband, David Ayers of Des Moines; her brother, James Westbrook and his wife, Susie of Destin, FL; and nieces and nephews.
