Robert “Bob” H. Gartzke, 81, of Iowa City, died Saturday, August 11th, 2007 at Mercy Hospital following a sudden illness.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00a.m.Wednesday, August 15th at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, Iowa City with Reverend Richard Paulus officiating. The family will greet friends on Tuesday from 4 to 7:30p.m. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Iowa City. Military graveside services will be provided by the Iowa City American Legion Post #17 and assisted by other local military organizations. Memorials may be directed to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.

Bob was born on July 19th, 1926 in Iowa City, the son of Herbert and Margaret (Tucker) Gartzke. He was united in marriage to Pauline Murphy on May 12th, 1947 in Iowa City. Bob was employed for Land O’ Lakes for over 35 years where he served as a Route Driver.

Bob was a 57 year member of the Iowa City American Legion Post #17, Past Commander of Post #17 and Johnson County and Past Vice Commander of the American Legion First District. He was also a member of the National Arthritis Aquatics Group. Bob enjoyed camping, fishing, decorating his home for the holidays, spending time with his family and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events in West Branch.

Bob is survived by his wife Pauline, his three daughters Anita (Gene) Skriver of West Branch, Paula Griffin (Bruce Gardner) of West Branch and Frances Gartzke of Iowa City, one sister Virginia Voparil of Iowa City, five grandchildren Lisa and Ryan Skriver, Bobby Griffin and James and David Rich, and 2 great-grandchildren Matthew and Misty. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother John.
