Jacob Kessler who died a few days ago was born near Janesville, Ohio, May 17, 1838 and died from paralysis at his home in Solon January 9, 1919. He came to Iowa in 1851. He was the oldest in a family of 11 children. He was married to Josephine Haemmerle of Iowa City in Nov. 1878; she died October 1883. To this union were born one son and three daughters. The son and two daughters died in their infancy and the third daughter is now Mrs. C. B. Cambridge of this place. Mr. Kessler was again married to Mary Broshiek in February 1885. To this union were born seven sons and two daughters, one of the sons dying in infancy.
Mr. Kessler was one of the oldest and most respected farmers in Johnson county, having lived on his farm until four years ago, when he rented it to two of his sons, Henry and John. His six sons acted as pallbearers. The funeral services were held at St. Mary's church Saturday, January 11, at 1 a.m. Father Panoch conducted the services.
