Rites Planned for PFC. Crain

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Oathout funeral chapel for Pfc. David Roland Crain, 23, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Crain, Route 4, who was killed in action in Korea.

The Rev. T.L. Jacobsen will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.

Pfc. Crain was the fourth Johnson County service man to be killed in the Korean war. He died September 17. The body will leave Oakland, Calif. at 6:30 p.m. today accompanied by a military escort, and is scheduled to arrive in Iowa City at 4:43 a.m. Tuesday.

David Roland Crain was born April 28, 1928 at Chippawa Falls, Wis., the son of Fred B. and Florence Buntz Crain. He came to Johnson county with his parents in 1930. He farmed with his father six miles southwest of Iowa City before entering the army.

Surviving are his parents, one brother, Robert Crain of Riverside, and three sisters, Mrs. Francis Ihrig of Iowa City, Mrs. Rodney Strub of Iowa City, and Miss Virginia Crain at home. Also surviving is his grandmother, Mrs. Louise Buntz, of Chippawa Falls, Wis.

One brother, Gordon, preceded him in death on October 11, 1949
