Matthew John Goodnow, age 27 of Washington, Iowa formerly of Iowa City and Belmond, died Saturday, October 26, 2002 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics following a brief illness.

Private family services will be held at a later date at the Welsh Pioneer Cemetery near Sharon Center. A memorial fund has been established in Matthew’s memory. Gay & Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Matthew’s services and his family.

Matthew was born May 2, 1975 in Iowa City. He has resided in Iowa City, Belmond, and most recently in Washington, Iowa. He loved being involved with the Special Olympics each year, and he had many medals to show for it.

His family includes his mother, Meg Goodnow Dobbs of Washington; sisters, Sarah Gary of Coralville, Rachel Hittner and Libby Dobbs both of Washington, and brother, Brian Dobbs of Washington; grandmother, Phyllis Goodnow of Iowa City; Aunt, Donna Goodnow of Iowa City; and uncle, John Goodnow of Iowa City.

Matthew was preceded in death by his grandfather, Donald Goodnow and step-father, Doug Dobbs.
