Karen Lue Conklin, age 63, formerly of Iowa City, died Monday, October 21, 2002 at her home in Bayonne, New Jersey from complications of cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 26, 2002 at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Burial will be at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Coralville. Visitation will be from 5 to 8pm today at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established in Karen’s memory. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Karen’s family and her services.

Karen was born March 18, 1939, in Iowa City the daughter of George and Mildred (Jones) Krohn. She graduated from University High School in Iowa City. On March 17, 1963, she married Michael C. Conklin at the Coralville United Methodist Church. The couple lived here until moving to Colorado in 1968. The returned to Iowa City in 1977 for a short time, moving back to Colorado in 1982, and later to Bayonne, New Jersey where they have resided for the past sixteen years. While in Iowa Karen was associated with ACT as head of the Data Processing Division for Student Loans. After leaving Iowa, she became associated with the United States Department of Energy. Here she developed the Financial Tracking System that is widely known and used throughout the entire United States. She has worked in offices in Denver, Philadelphia, and New York.

She was an avid lover of animals, supporting many animal causes nationwide. She also was a member of the National Lighthouse Association, a group established to restore and maintain lighthouses throughout our country. However, her greatest passion in life came from her family, especially her grandson who was born nearly three years ago.

Her family includes her husband, Mike; daughter, Michelle Lynn Conklin of Bayonne, NJ; grandson, Thomas Michael Conklin; and her sister, Judith A, Krohn of Grants Pass, OR.
