Helen L. Ré, 92, died October 18, 2002, in Coralville following a long illness. A private memorial service will be held in the home of her daughter, Susan Zollo, of Iowa City.

Helen was born in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts to Mary and L.B. Fishburn. She graduated from Jamaica Plain High School at the age of 16 and worked as a legal secretary for many years. She married New York pianist and bandleader Payson Ré in 1940 and they lived in New York, Cape Cod and Boston. In 1972, Helen moved to Iowa City to be near her daughter, grandchildren and son-in-law. In Iowa City, she worked in the Johnson County Attorney’s Office as a legal secretary and spent summers in Camden, Maine.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Rick Zollo of Iowa City; grandsons, David Zollo and his wife Beth Oxler of Iowa City; and Mark Zollo of Coralville; a sister, Doris Peterson of Walpole, Massachusetts; a brother, Irvin Fishburn of San Diego, California; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister Ethel Mariano of Daly City, California; her sister Lorraine Caldwell of Walpole, Massachusetts; and her brother, Henry Fisher of Camden, Maine.

Memorials may be made to Lantern Park Nursing & Rehab or Iowa City Hospice.
